On Designing Creative Writing Exercises

One touchstone for measuring the success of a creative writing course is the students’ work. Designing writing exercises, however, which are the key to good writing, is often a missing part of books on teaching creative writing published in Hong Kong and Taiwan. In my presentation, I will try to put forward some important considerations for the design of writing assignments, including the connection between exercises and the theme of the lessons, length of the assignment, writing time limits, and students' life experiences, based on my long-time teaching experience.
